Recently, I've come across many of the different things I have been discriminated upon for being. Pierced, Colorful hair, and most of all, lesbian. I have been invited to speak at a pride rally here in erie, and the speech I am giving is below.

"Hello, My name is Sylvana. I am a lesbian, and all my life, i have dealt with the predjudice, the problems that occur from the way I live my life.
The problem with the predjudice and hate crimes against homosexuals is that many people ramin unaware of what they are. Today, we are disgusted with the idea of slavery, the idea of racism towards blacks, and people of other minorities. But what these people will fail to understand is that they are predjudice against gays and lesbians. They are completely unaware of the laws in existance that prohibit homosexuals the rights that characterize them as human beings. Homosexuals are subject to stereotypes and predjudice.
Gay men are viewed as feminine, lesbians are protrayed as manly, and both being overwhelmingly ingrossed with sex or with little or no self control or morality. Look around you. Gays and lesbians. Bisexuals and transgendered. Questioning, and even allies are a part of society. Friends, relatives, teachers, and even people you have known your whole life could be gay! Does that make them any different?
Gay and lesbians go through religious and social injustice every single day of their lives. Most heterosexual Americans feel that their lifestyle is being threatened by anything and everything that is different from thei lifestyle. A gay couple couldn't even think about beginning the population process.
Imagine falling in love with the person of your dreams, you plan to get married, and spend the remainder of your lives together. But, what if this person was one of a completely different race? Generations ago, this would have been immoral. But in todays society, it does not seem to be a problem. Does the color of the skin describe the person inside? Most will not discriminate a minority because of their skin, so why are gays and lesbians constantly discriminated against simply because of what is in their hearts?
Would you ever permit the government to command you on whom to love, how to live, and how to feel?
Homosexuals are not able to be married, so they word harder for relationships. They travel far, just to be unified. And divorce is very uncommon. Many benefits that homosexuals are denied include: social security, Medicare, hospital visitation rights, specail rates, exumption on tax returns, joint child custody, joint insurance policies, automatic inheretince from a will, making medical decisions on a partners behalf, and choosing a final resting place for a deceased partner.
Society is terrified of the unknown, and this is the reason people spread rumors and disgust. People grow up ashamed of their sexuality, trying their damndest to change into something they are not.
Mankind, it has given us a gift. It has allowed us to see past different religions, cultures, beliefs, and most importantly, lifestyles.
Because in the end, every GLBTQ and ally ask the same question.
"Did we vote on YOUR marrige?""

Obviously, I am not trying to say that you should accept everyone. Of course, our generation is going to be completely different than generations before us. We will have parents and grand parents, aunts and uncles who may not believe that gay marrige is acceptable today. But if you realize what we have gone through for equal rights, society and what it believes to be "normal" have completely changed.
Recently, New York has made gay marrige legal. But who says that will not change?
As I have stated in my speech, mankind has been given a gift. We are able to look past all the differences between ourselves and other people, and see who they really are for who they are.

What are your views on gay marrige? Do you believe the marrige should be allowed?
And also, (just think about this question) what would you do if you had a homosexual son or daughter, and they decided to marry?

What are your views on gay marrige?
It's not different from other marriages, because everyone loves the same way

Do you believe the marrige should be allowed?
Of course, everyone deserves to have the same rights

And also, (just think about this question) what would you do if you had a homosexual son or daughter, and they decided to marry?
I'd ask him/her to be godfather of their children xD
