I can actually see two sides of it, one being the rude part and one being the not-so-rude part. Really, it depends on the reason for calling that late and whether or not you called the house phone rather than the friend's cell phone. I can't really decide whether or not the mom's reaction was over-the-top or justified without that.
If it was something really important, say someone you know was badly hurt, and you needed to call at 1:00 in the morning, then the mom saying that would be rude.
However, if you were calling at 1:00 in the morning with some personal drama or something of that nature, I can see why the mom would be mad that you woke her up to answer the phone for that (unless she answered your friend's cell phone, which would be very rude.)
Also, she could just have been half asleep when she answered the phone. I know when someone calls me before I actually have a chance to fully wake up, I don't know or care what they're talking about. I mean, I don't swear angrily at them when they do, but unless it's really important, I barely understand them. :P
Some people do get very agitated if you wake them up though. |
