i think all the countries should come together and have a vote...it makes it ten times fairer and people who want to be married to the same sex dont have to go to another country to be married they could stay in there own country...if it was legalized

Why vote? There shouldn't even have to be a vote about it. Bi/homosexual persons should have the same rights as everyone else.

yeah, lets have all the countries vote for it...
let me think...what will nearly all African and Asian countries vote...against gay marriage, probably?
No, a worldwide voting is not good. like jojoboo said, it is incorrect. It is the same thing as if we'd let the world vote for permission or rejection of marriage between black people...it's insane.

yeah, in some countries is it illegal to BE homosexual. So, that's not good. All countries haven't came so far. For a worldvoting must it be a more neutral attitude to gays.

Czech Republic made game marriage legal on 01 July 2006 (4 days ago)

I found out some more information. The countries where gay marriage is considered fully legal are:

Netherlands (The first country, since 2001)
South-Africa (The first African nation, since 2004)
Belgium
Spain
Britain (December 2005)
Canada (in June 2006)
Czech Republic (in July 2006)

The following countries allow civil unions:
Australia
France
Denmark (The first Nordic nation)
Norway
Sweden
Iceland

The following states of The United States recognise gay marriage/unions:
Massachusetts
Vermont
Connecticut

Whereas Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey and California allow gay couples living together the same rights as straight married couples, but do not permit marriage or civil unions between homosexuals.

I am under the impression that Germany and Switzerland also allow gay marriage (or civil unions), although I am uncertain of this.

Exactly. It's a matter of principle, not of popular opinion or vote. Besides, how could we have a world-wide vote? We're all seperated into different countries for a reason. It's no accident that the population of one country generally sees the world differently from that of another country. We could have a world-wide vote if all countries existed under the same principles, but the fact of the matter is that they don't.

Am I one of those religious twits?

I think they should legalize same-sex marriage. (Although half my family is against it, I say it's their life and it's how they want to live it, whether it be gay/lesbian or bisexual.) It'll make every gay/lesbian's life easier by not having to fly somewhere where same-sex marriage is legal by having them get married where they live.

Over and out.

I agree, (and here in Honduras you don't see gays that often..yet I support it) marriage is about love and everybody deserves to be happy , it doesn't bother me and I'm straight, why should it bother the rest of the straight people? that's just like being racist and so on..you guys get me I think it should be legal!

I think it should be legal everywhere. Why does it matter so much if they're the same gender... it's about love and that's all it should be about.

Sadly, it's not legal here in NY. My mom had friends that had to go to a different state to get married.

Yes, it's 'bout love. I mean, you don't marry a person for the gender, you marry the person cause you love her/him.

In the U.S. of A, it is Illegal. But I think that they should legalize gay ang lesbian marriges because seeing that it is illegel, they are pretty much saying that you can't be in love with the same sex. But some people are that way, so they should make it legal. My aunt is a lesbian. And she wanted to get married to her girlfriend, but it wasn't a legal marrige. What next?! Are they goin gto say that gay and lesbian couples are not allowed in the U.S. of A?

Really? You're the first person to ever call George Bush a loser, since it seems that everyone just LOVES him. You rebel, you, standing against the consensus.

Besides, it's not the president who decides whether gay marriage is legal or not. This isn't a dictatorship. The president always needs approval from the other two government branches. So it's not all Bush's fault, because he doesn't have enough power for it to all be his fault. Now, he's definitely opposed to gay marriage, that's for sure.

Citat:

Hell, no! Not Oprah for president! Please, anything but that. Geez, I know we're all emotional over this and everything, but you don't have to start talking crazy now. I mean, Oprah would never make a good president because 1) She's a woman and 2) She already has an obvious political agenda and I, personally, don't think we need any more fembots in the United States.

If Bush was really such a loser, how come most Americans re-elected him last year? ;p Hmm, seems like all that mass-propaganda about more than half of the Americans not thinking he's a good president and there's absolutely no chance that he will ever be re-elected is utter bollocks after all, just as I thought btw.

Oprah for president? Sure, or Jerry Springer or Geraldo or even Dr Phil. May I just burst into laughter and throw up at the same time? I wish these infantile peabrains that spent more than half the day watching that kind of junk tv would stay off serious topics like these. Oh well.

Excuse me?

I said that she wouldn't make a good president in part because of the fact that she's a woman. No need to thank me. Glad to re-word that for you and clear up any misunderstanding.

Citat:
Cygnus that kind of attitude went out the window 100 or so years ago + your a women (or should i say little girl) yourself haha.

I will quote Ninotchka and say: "Do not make an issue of my womanhood." That has nothing to do with what I said. And, by the way, is your calling me a "little girl" supposed to be derogatory or something?

Anyway, maybe I should have explained my rationale a little better: I simply don't think most women would be suited for the presidency. Actually, I don't think most men would make good presidents, either. I guess you could say I don't think most people have what it takes. But, you see, I think this is especially true of women, as opposed to men. I think most people rely too much on their emotions to be put in a position like the presidency, which takes quite a bit rationality, as opposed to making judgements purely on what "feels" right. Problem is, most women have a more severe tendancy to rely on their emotions than most men.

I doubt that there exists a woman who is qualified to be president because of the so-called "feminine" tendancies that most women possess.

However, I do think it is possible for a woman to be a successful president, but she would have to be a truly logical woman. In my experience, few of these exist. And an even fewer number of these would want to be president. So, practically speaking, basically every woman that you could name would not qualify. Especially someone like Oprah. So it is highly improbable that a woman would make a good president.

Something that makes the number of qualified women even lower is the modern feminist movement, which glorifies the faults of women, rather than encouraging them to repair their faults, and tries to define women as weaklings, contrary to their explicit intentions. Women who have been exposed to, or who are proponents of, the feminist movement are likely not qualified to be president. Oprah is among these women.

Thus, some women are likely to be less qualified than others. For example, the tendancy for lesbians to be feminists would most likely render it unlikely that a lesbian would make a good president. See what I mean? (And don't start calling me a homophobe like some of you people did last time I argued something like this because, you see, I'm a lesbian.)

Citat:

No need to start name-calling, now. Especially if you hadn't heard my argument behind the statement and just assumed I had an arbitrary opinion based on old ideas. Which I don't. If someone's going to disagree, at least tell me why. Don't hurl the old "Those ideas are 100 years old and not progressive like mine" thing at me. Talk. It's a discussion board, after all.

Citat:

Agreed. The point has been explained, so let us resume.
