]I am talking about J.K. Rowling's recent addmission that she intends to kill Harry Potter and/or turn one of the other major characters evil. Things have been ratched up a notch.
Stephen King and another major author John Irving have stepped in to ask her not to do this which, I personally think, is a bit odd.... Two authors telling another how to write her books.
I hate that Rowling might do this but she is the creator of Harry Potter's Universe so she can really do as she pleases.... Anyway here is an excerpt:
Don't kill Harry Potter, authors urge Rowling

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Two of America's top authors, John Irving and Stephen King, made a plea to J.K. Rowling on Tuesday not to kill the fictional boy wizard Harry Potter in the final book of the series, but Rowling made no promises.
"My fingers are crossed for Harry," Irving said at a joint news conference before a charity reading by the three writers at New York's Radio City Music Hall.
The author of "The World According to Garp" and a string of other bestsellers said he and King felt like "warm-up bands" for Rowling, who is working on the seventh and last book in the Harry Potter series, and who has said two characters will die.
King, who shot to fame in 1974 with "Carrie," said he had confidence that Rowling would be "fair" to her hero.

yea, I read that too. It's her book so it should be up to her... I'm not that much into HP but I think it would be kinda interesting if he died. |

I don't understand why Rowling would talk about what she intends to write. If I was her, I would just write it and that would be that...and not get involved in the "talkshow" and "sportstalk" analysis being done by so many people.
I think people generally talk too much and listen too little and know even less these days....  |

Not really afterall Rowling is the BOSS....once she ends the story she doesn't have to keep reopening it...She is not obligated to respond to reader's letters or requests. And killing him would not necessarily bring the story to an end...
Batman Begins is a "prequel" to the 3 exsisting Batman movies... StarTrek Enterprise was a "prequel" to the entire StarTrek series...and let's not forget how many times Freddy Kreuger and Jason were killed, blown up, chopped up and vaporized and still they somehow came back....
Point being she created a whole universe that almost endless stories could come from. So she could write a final chapter and say "The End" whether you like it or not |

It's a bit of a dilemma, because if she finishes him off in the 7th book, nobody will ever be able to write an 8th sequel to the series, which is what she is worried about. On the other hand, some sickly obsessed fans might not like that and who knows what they are capable off :p |

If you think about it...death in a world of magic is not a big deal. Remember the ghost of the girl from the 2nd book? She was dead and communicated quite well with Harry.
So, I think this a case of some inconsistant thinking on the writer's part.... |
