Aug. 31, 2006 — All across the Internet landscape, bloggers are screaming out about the controversy surrounding a Nebraska State Patrol trooper and his membership in the KKK and white supremacist group the White Knights.
"Freakin' stupid racism," one blogger writes.
"A racist cop? I am shocked. SHOCKED!" writes another.
"Since 1871, the US has designated the KKK as a 'violent, terrorist organization.' But so is the state of Nebraska, for the most part," concludes yet another.
The furor followed a decision by an arbitrator who ordered the Nebraska State Patrol to reinstate Trooper Robert Henderson, 50, of Omaha, an 18-year veteran of the force.
He was fired in March after admitting he had been a KKK member and had made postings on the White Knights' members-only Web site since June 2004 while off-duty.....

*shrugs* probably not, no. this is just one guy though, and has he done anything terribly that they know of? I find the thought of those suspects that planned the Heathrow bombings (and the smaller(?) one in Australia) all being perfectly integrated businessmen and a few converted Muslims much more frightening. |

The KKK doesn't seem to do much these days, but maybe they're more active in the midwest. *shrug* If the guy's a racist, he shouldn't be working for the government. But, whatever, it's not against the law to be racist, just to hurt people. So long as he doesn't do the latter, he doesn't seem legally at fault for anything. Then again, should we really wait around for it when the guy used to belong to a violent group of terrorists? Like I said, racists don't belong in government-sponsered positions, since the government is supposed to be impartial and, uh, not racist. |

He might let them happen. Might not. Depends on his commitment to his job, and whether he holds his job as a higher value than his racism. If he doesn't, then he would allow certain crimes to happen, or he could commit crimes himself. |

The worst government in the world? Don't make me laugh. Really, don't. Visit Cuba for a few weeks (or days, or hours even) and tell me that the U.S. has the worst government in the world.
Unless you're familiar with the way the governments in any of the surrounding countries work, you are in no place to make the judgement that the U.S. is the "worst government in the world." Do some research. Heck, you don't even have to visit any of the surrounding countries. Really, when you weigh the economic and political freedoms together, the U.S. government allows the most freedom of any major country in the world. I guess if freedom's not your thing, then the U.S. has the worst government. (Besides, all governments so far, in the history of mankind, have been evil to some degree.)
If you're going to point out the U.S. government's wrong-doings, you should most definitely do this, because they have been wrong many, many times. But be freaking accurate and be specific, for the love of God.
I'm sick of ignorant, coffee-house hippies like you. Move. Seriously. You're sixteen; you can drop out of school and move to a socialist commune in West Africa. Move. Unlike many other countries, the U.S. government won't stop you. |

Even a racist needs a job.
That said, law enforcement is not just a job. At least in theory, it's a profession and as such requires the highest standards of character.
Every sworn law enforcement officer is bound by a law enforcement code of ethics which extends beyond the performance of his official duties. It's a 24/7 obligation.
Anyone who cannot meet or maintain this high standard of character cannot be a law enforcement officer.
At least in theory.
The reality...is sad. |
